First of all you will need the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger to make use of the skins. 

Now you are ready to apply one of your Yahoo! Messenger skins that you downloaded. (For applying skins on the older version of Messenger Please see instructions below):

• Go to the main Messenger window

• Click on the Login menu item, and select Preferences

• Then click on the Appearance category

• Select a new Theme by selecting one from the current theme drop down menu

• Click Apply

Older Version:

• Go to the main Messenger window

• Click on the Edit menu item, and select Preferences

• Then click on the Appearance tab

• Select a new Skin (or theme) by selecting one from the drop down menu.
